Quick Tip: Resizing images whilst retaining the aspect ratio

It's common to need to change the size of an image in a diagram and generally we want to retain the aspect ratio of the image when we resize it. In Web Author this is fairly simple, just hold down the Shift key whilst performing the resize and the aspect ratio will be retained. The same approach can be used for other objects as well.

Quick tip: Drag select in Web Author

One of the less discovered features in Web Author is the ability to drag select a number of components at once using the mouse. This is achieved by holding down the left mouse button for a short while before beginning the drag select. If the left mouse button isn't held down for long enough, Web Author assumes you are trying to drag the whole diagram or select an element rather than begin a drag select.

Quick tip: Fixing outputs not appearing

Some users of Web Author have reported that after pressing the 'View HTML' and 'View PDF' buttons, nothing happens. The output doesn't appear. In some cases this may not happen all the time, just occasionally. The cause of the problem was their browser's popup blocker.

Spellchecking in Web Author

We've received a few queries about spellchecking in Web Author. We are using the default spellchecking functionality provided by the user's browser. In most browsers this means incorrectly spelled words are underlined with a red squiggly line. In text fields, you can right-click and suggested corrections are provided. In description fields, right-clicking shows a context menu for the editor, rather than the browser's menu, so no suggestions are provided. However you can force the browser's menu to appear by pressing the CTRL button at the same time as right-clicking.
